Police arrest five people after 'assault on officers' as thousands of Black Lives Matter activists marched on US embassy in London and crowds gathered peacefully around UK demanding 'justice' for George Floyd killed by cops 4,000 miles away in US #icantbreathe #blacklivematters #minneapolis

Five people were arrested in London today as thousands of Black Lives Matter protesters peacefully marched on the US Embassy in London, with hundreds more taking to the streets of Cardiff and Manchester, to demonstrate against the killing of George Floyd.

Chants of, 'I can't breathe,' rebounded across the Thames this afternoon, the words Floyd was heard gasping before his death as a white police officer knelt on his neck in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on Monday.

They defied the ban on mass gatherings to rally at Trafalgar Square before making their way to the gates of Downing Street and then south of the river towards the US Embassy.

Three of the five were arrested for breaching coronavirus legislation, said police, while the other two were detained for assaulting officers.

In a statement, the Metropolitan Police said:

Stimulus checks worth $1,200 for every American have been 'delayed for days because Donald Trump demanded the IRS print his name on them after being told he was not allowed to sign them' #newyork #covid19news

The U.S. Treasury Department has reportedly ordered President Donald Trump's name to be printed on checks the Internal Revenue Service is planning to send to tens of millions of Americans, slowing their delivery by several days,.
The $1,200 checks to cushion the economic blow from the coronavirus crisis will bear Trump's name in the memo line, below a line that reads, 'Economic Impact Payment', the Washington Post reported on Tuesday citing unnamed administration officials.
The White House and the Treasury Department did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
The decision to include Trump's name was announced to the IRS information technology team on Tuesday, the Post reported.

I'm the captain! Donald Trump calls governors making their own decisions about opening up the country 'mutineers' and threatens to withhold coronavirus aid - as Andrew Cuomo unloads on 'schizophrenic' president accusing him of risking 'a constitutional crisis' #Covid19 #ny

Donald Trump on Tuesday called any governor who resisted his 'total authority' as president a mutineer and threatened to withhold coronavirus aid from them if they didn't heed his call to reopen the country.
'Tell the Democrat Governors that “Mutiny On The Bounty” was one of my all time favorite movies. A good old fashioned mutiny every now and then is an exciting and invigorating thing to watch, especially when the mutineers need so much from the Captain. Too easy!,' he tweeted.
The president was defending his claim that he has authority to reopen states to business in the wake of the economic devastation caused by the coronavirus, which goes against the 10th amendment of the constitution.
Several governors - led by New York's Andrew Cuomo - blasted Trump.

UK reveals 778 more coronavirus deaths taking the total to 12,107 victims and officials announce 5,252 further positive tests as Britain enters its fourth week of nationwide lockdown #covid19 #coronavirus

The UK has announced 778 more deaths from the coronavirus today, taking the UK's total to 12,107 after three weeks of nationwide lockdown.
NHS England confirmed 744 more patients have died in its hospitals and a total of 34 fatalities were announced across Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
The increase from 717 deaths recorded yesterday is small - 8.5 per cent - but it comes at the end of a four-day bank holiday weekend, meaning deaths that happened after Wednesday last week may be underreported because of a data lag which appears to happen every weekend.
A more promising development is the apparent stabilising of the number of people being diagnosed with the virus each day - 5,252 more people were diagnosed in the past 24 hours, taking the total number of positive tests so far to 93,873. This has risen from a week low of 4,342 yesterday but is lower than four of the past six days.
Government scientists have cautioned against pinning too much hope to the numbers of people dying because they date back up to two weeks and do not represent the situation on the day they're published.
By the end of March coronavirus had become a contributing factor in one in every five deaths in England (21.2 per cent), according to separate data published today, and more people died in the first week of April than in any other week of the past 15 years.

'Not guilty as charged': Donald Trump is acquitted on two articles of impeachment but Mitt Romney denies president bragging rights for perfect Republican support, #thrump #pelosi #thrumptrial

Donald Trump was acquitted on the two articles of impeachment against him on Wednesday, bringing a four-month fractious trial and inquiry to a close.
The final outcome was an almost certainty in the Republican-controlled Senate where it would have taken a two-thirds majority to remove him from office.
Chief Justice John Roberts presided over the the two votes - one for each article - and instructed senators to vote 'guilty' or 'not guilty,' which is different from the usual 'yeah' or 'nay' lawmakers say.
The clerk of the Senate called out each senator by name so each could vote, one by one.  At the end of each vote, Roberts pronounced Trump 'not guilty as charged.'
On the first article, abuse of power, 48 senators voted guilty and 52 found the president not guilty.
For the second vote, on obstruction of Congress, 47 senators voted guilty and 53 voted not guilty.
With the votes concluded, Roberts gave the final judgement.
'The Senate having tried Donald J. Trump - president of the united States - upon two articles of impeachment exhibited against him by the House of Representatives and 2/3 of the senators present not having found him guilty of the charges contained therein, it is therefore order and judged that the said Donald John Trump be hereby acquitted of the charges in the said articles,' Roberts pronounced.

Donald Trump says Iran 'appears to be standing down' but vows to hit the regime with 'punishing sanctions' after damp squib revenge rocket attack fails to draw American blood #arsonemergency #iran #thrump

Donald Trump has said Iran is 'standing down' in the Middle East after a 'crushing revenge' strike aimed at avenging the death of one of its top generals failed to kill a single soldier.
The President said he no longer wants to use American military might against Tehran as the two sides stepped back from the brink of all-out conflict, in what amounts to a victory for the US.
Trump said he will impose 'punishing' new sanctions in an attempt to force Iran to abandon its nuclear program and stop supporting terrorists, but offered an olive branch by inviting European nations along with Russia and China to negotiate an alternative to the 2015 nuclear deal which he said would guarantee Iran 'a good future'.
Trump added that the world should be 'very happy' after General

Iran threatens the WHITE HOUSE: Tehran ups the ante by promising a 'crushing and powerful retaliation on American soil' and US military sites and brands Donald Trump a 'terrorist in a suit' after he threatened to attack 52 Iranian targets #thrump #iran #iran #wwIII

Iran has threatened to attack the White House in response to President Donald Trump's warning that any strike on American interests in the region will bring massive retaliation.
'We can attack the White House itself, we can respond to them on the American soil. We have the power, and God willing we will respond in an appropriate time,' said Iranian MP Abolfazl Abutorabi, according to the Iranian Labour News Agency.
Abutorabi went on to say that 'this is a declaration of war, which means if you hesitate you lose'.
'When someone declares war do you want to respond to the bullets with flowers? They will shoot you in the head,' he added.
Abutorabi's threat was made during an open session of parliament in Tehran, Iran, on Sunday, and just days after Iranian military commander Qassem Soleimani, the architect of Tehran's overseas clandestine and military operations as head of the Revolutionary Guards' Quds Force, was killed on Friday in a US drone strike on his convoy at Baghdad airport.
Following massive funeral marches in Iraq, Soleimani's body was flown to the city of Ahvaz in southwest Iran on Sunday.
Video from the scene shows a casket wrapped in an Iranian flag being unloaded from a plane as a military band plays and the crowd angrily chanted 'Death to America'.
On Saturday, Revolutionary Guards commander Major General Hossein Salami promised 'a strategic revenge which will definitely put an end to the US presence in the region'.
However, Trump, who has been branded a 'terrorist in a suit' by Iran leaders, threatened to hit 52 critical targets in Iran in retaliation if Tehran strikes any American interests in the region, upping the stakes after Iran said it had identified 35 targets for potential strikes and raised its red 'flags of revenge' over a key mosque.
