SAMSUNG has invented a completely wireless TV
Samsung explains in the supporting patent documentation that its device will be powered by an electromagnetic bar which will act as a base station for the TV to draw current from.
This bar has been designed to be mounted between between the TV and the wall.
It will also serve as a soundbar and will generate an electromagnetic field in whichever room the TV is placed in.
Wireless charging devices are common but the main difference with Samsung's potential creation is that there will be a gap between the TV and the charging device.
Initially, this gap will have to be fairly small but as technology advances there could soon be just one base station powering all the devices in a room.
A few years ago, scientists at a branch of The Walt Disney Company called Disney Research used a magnetic field to turn an entire room into a wireless charger.
Advancements like this could mean that, one day, devices will automatically start charging when a person walks into certain rooms.
Although the completely wireless TV is an exciting concept, it is not yet clear when or even if the device will be created.
Sometimes a company will patent a new idea quickly so that no other companies can take it, even if they are not quite ready to start working on it or need to prioritise other developments.
