CR7 Returns to Man U: Rio Ferdinand reveals Cristiano Ronaldo conversation ahead of Man Utd return

Rio Ferdinand has revealed that spoke with Cristiano Ronaldo to convince him to reject interest from Manchester City and rejoin Manchester United.

The Red Devils confirmed on Friday that they have reached an agreement with Juventus to bring the forward back to Old Trafford 12 years after he initially departed.

However, it appeared on Thursday that he would instead be heading to Man City, and that he was even willing to take a pay-cut to go back on his promise not to join United's rivals.

Ferdinand, who played alongside Ronaldo in his first spell at the club, has confirmed that he helped edge the transfer over the line and make sure that he did not end up at the Etihad Stadium.

"Sir Alex Ferguson would have been the exact same, he would have hatred to see Cristiano in a Man City shirt, just like any other person that's been connected for a long time at this football club," Ferdinand said on Twitter via his fashion label, FIVE.

"I rang him [Ronaldo] straight away, 'what's going on? Tell me you're lying'. [I said] every type of 'no, no, no' in the

Lionel Messi arrives in Paris with his wife and their kids to sign his £1MILLION-per-week, two-year PSG contract as his new club finally confirm his arrival with a video... and he steps out in a 'Paris' t-shirt

Lionel Messi has arrived in Paris with his wife and children for his medical with Paris Saint-Germain where he will sign a £1million-per-week, two-year deal after leaving cash-strapped Barcelona.

The 34-year-old was pictured at Barcelona airport alongside his wife Antonella and their three children, Thiago, eight, Mateo, five, and Ciro, three, earlier on Tuesday. Antonella, 33, later posted a selfie alongside her husband as they sat on their private jet waiting to fly to France.

But the Argentine star, who was wearing a t-shirt that said 'Ici c'est Paris' which translates to 'Here is Paris' and is widely used on PSG merchandise and branding, touched down later in the afternoon and was pictured waving to the supporters who had gathered to see Messi's arrival at Paris–Le Bourget Airport.

PSG have posted a teasing clip to their Twitter account, showing six Ballon d'Ors - the amount Messi has won - in front of the Eiffel Tower and a space in the dressing room between Neymar and Kylian Mbappe, who the Argentine is likely to play alongside in attack.

Sources at the French club confirmed Messi's lawyers had been poring over the contract proposal since Sunday but gave it their approval this morning.

The final points of negotiation were understood to have concerned the six-time Ballon d'Or winners image rights, as well as the breakdown of his wages and various bonuses.

Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano confirmed in the hours following Messi's arrival in Paris that he had completed his medical and would move to his hotel to complete formalities over his big-money move, with the player expected to be unveiled as a new PSG player tomorrow morning at 11am, local time.

They defied the ban on mass gatherings to rally at Trafalgar Square before making their way to the gates of Downing Street and then south of the river towards the US Embassy.

Three of the five were arrested for breaching coronavirus legislation, said police, while the other two were detained for assaulting officers.

In a statement, the Metropolitan Police said:

I'm the captain! Donald Trump calls governors making their own decisions about opening up the country 'mutineers' and threatens to withhold coronavirus aid - as Andrew Cuomo unloads on 'schizophrenic' president accusing him of risking 'a constitutional crisis' #Covid19 #ny

Donald Trump on Tuesday called any governor who resisted his 'total authority' as president a mutineer and threatened to withhold coronavirus aid from them if they didn't heed his call to reopen the country.
'Tell the Democrat Governors that “Mutiny On The Bounty” was one of my all time favorite movies. A good old fashioned mutiny every now and then is an exciting and invigorating thing to watch, especially when the mutineers need so much from the Captain. Too easy!,' he tweeted.
The president was defending his claim that he has authority to reopen states to business in the wake of the economic devastation caused by the coronavirus, which goes against the 10th amendment of the constitution.
Several governors - led by New York's Andrew Cuomo - blasted Trump.
