A driver survived a near-death experience when his car was left teetering over the edge of a canyon only to get hit by a bus minutes later as he walked for help
.
Police said the man initially had an incredible escape as he managed to calmly clamber out of the wreckage before it had a chance to go over the edge.
But dazed and disorientated he wandered onto the road where he was struck by a passing tour bus, according to police .
He was found conscious and breathing and taken to hospital in Los Angeles, California.
The Malibu-Lost Hills Sheriff's Station published a statement to Facebook after the accident along with a photo showing a vehicle hanging precariously off a cliff on Malibu Canyon Road.
The police said: "The male adult driver lost control of his vehicle, nearly going over the side.
"The driver became disoriented and exited the vehicle and was struck by a passing tour bus."
Responders rushed to the scene in the late afternoon to find the man conscious and breathing.
He was treated by California Highway Patrol and the Los Angeles County Fire Department before being rushed to a local hospital. CHP is investigating the accident.
"This is another reminder of the need to drive safely through the canyons of our beautiful area and to use extreme caution at the scene of a traffic collision," sheriff's officials said.
